Subject: Judges Mason Register

Hi, I am currently petitioning the Scottish Parliament re the above and while canvassing support I have e-mailed all academics in the Law Departments at all Scottish Universities. Several prominent academics have signed their support for the petition.

In addition to academics I have also canvassed all members of the Scottish Youth Parliament and again the response has been positive with at least three signing the petition so far and others supportive and promising to consult their local constituents to assess their feeling.

So I thought I would write to you with a view of having an article or an add for the petition published in your blog Scottish Republican Socialist News website.

I feel the matter is a very important one as within my petition (which is my second one on this topic) I refer to the anomaly whereby over two thirds of our Scottish Law Lords were members of the all-male and exclusive Speculative Society of Edinburgh.

Can you help me make Scottish Republican Socialist members aware of my petition?

I have over 400 signatures at present and as the closing date for support signatures is not until 29 October I would like to have a few thousand support my views. I say this because discussion of my previous (similar) petition Justice Minister, Jim Wallace, said that petition was unique and I was the only person he knew of with concerns in this regard.

He obviously didn’t know Dr Samuel Johnson said this on the subject: “Where secrecy or mystery begins, vice or roguery is not far off.”

Thanking you in anticipation of your consideration.

 Yours sincerely,

Tom Minogue, petitioner.
